Evidence of Proverbs 31:10-30 on the Eve of My (Truck Borrowing) Late Brother’s Birthday
Anonymous
The old man dozed in his upright chair;
German soccer teams called from the large screen
vainly, as his hearing aids were nowhere
near. His wife of ‘most 60 years has been
shov’ling snow; she has for decades, so why
rest now? He startles at phone’s ring, tries to
answer, hits it wrong. Then, with a deep sigh,
remembers he’s alone, shuffles to woo
his bride. He catches sight of his truck: snow
piled high as birthday cake betrays its lack
of current usefulness. That strikes a blow
to his broken heart; close tears rush, quick, back.
“Our son is dead!” quer’lously weeps he to her, who provides
him warmth and God’s mercy. Beside him now, she leads inside.
